This is an excerpt from a cardiac module for Poudre Valley Hospital. As part of the unit on mitral valve prolapse, calcification and replacement, a regurgitation example was one of the more fun ones to create. Autodesk Maya has a really nice”jiggle” deformer that allowed the leaflets to bounce ever so slightly and give the valve a really life like, almost, exaggerated movement. Character is definitely an important principle in animation and I’d like to think this valve has just that despite the regurgitation pathophysiology that starts after about 10 seconds of normal function.
